Lone Immigrant Soldiers
Building a homeland for every Jew. WINGS: Support Program for Lone Immigrant Soldiers
The lone immigrant soldiers are motivated, idealistic Jewish young adults from around the world who choose to leave their families and their homes to serve in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and start a new life in Israel. Many do not speak Hebrew, are not familiar with Israeli culture and have no support system in Israel.
Upon discharge from the army, these soldiers must immediately find a place to live, decide on a higher education or career path and find a job to support themselves – all without the benefit of a family in Israel to help them. The multi-faceted Wings program gives these lone immigrant soldiers support and guidance before and immediately after they are discharged aimed at easing the transition into civilian life.
WINGS offers several levels of support and services - courses are provided on job market trends and opportunities in higher education, workshops are designed to develop participants’ personal and interpersonal skills so that they can advance in the professional labor market and financial advice and comprehensive counseling are given enabling them to fully prepare for their release from the IDF.
Each year there are approximately 700 lone immigrant soldiers who are discharged from the IDF and can benefit immensely from the WINGS program.
A generous donation of $3,000 will provide the WINGS program and an additional basket of vital services for one soldier.
