Jerusalem Day

Strengthening the Capital of the Jewish People: Jerusalem Day (May 22nd, 2009 / 28 Iyar) is an excellent opportunity to call our attention to the need to strengthen the capital of the Jewish People and emphasize the work Keren Hayesod is doing in Jerusalem.

"Youth Futures" in Jerusalem – This is the first year that this innovative and exciting project is taking place in Jerusalem. There are currently 116 youth at risk in the program in Jerusalem, under the auspices of 9 trustees. In the project’s framework, young educational trustees act as children’s life coach, sponsor and facilitator opposite their school, family, and community social services for small groups of children. This project focuses on honing and strengthening each child’s potential, skills and strengths through individual mentoring, and planning tailored educational and enrichment programs for each child so they can succeed.

A donation of US $7,200 will enable us to reach ten children through the Youth Futures program.

Beit Canada Absorption Center – This absorption center, located in the Talpiot neighborhood in Jerusalem, is the first home in Israel for over 100 Olim students from 20 countries around the world. Specializing in the absorption of young adults (ages 22-35), this center provides a variety of activities, in addition to the living facilities, to help these young new immigrants begin their lives in Israel. The fact that the center is located in Jerusalem can serve as a gateway that will lead these students to make Jerusalem their home.

A donation of US $5,800 will provide a new home in Israel at the absorption center for one new immigrant for one year.

"Masa" in Jerusalem - MASA is an exciting initiative which, in partnership with the Government of Israel, brings thousands of young Jewish adults from around the world on long-term educational programs in Israel. MASA significantly enhances participants’ Jewish identity and their connection to Israel and the Jewish People. Out of the many Masa programs available, 44 programs are offered in Jerusalem, enabling hundreds of young adults to spend meaningful time in Jerusalem.

A donation of US $5,750 will enable one student to participate on a Masa long term program (with additional matching from the Israeli government of $5,000 per student).

Lev Hair – KH-UIA has created a strategic partnership with the Lev Hair community center, headed by Uri Amedi. This partnership includes in it a variety of social projects for youth, families and the elderly, all of which directly effect the lives of the residents of the heart of Jerusalem.

Please contact your local Shaliach for additional information on all of these projects
