Keren Hayesod of Geneva and French-speaking Switzerland launched its 2010 campaign at a gala evening on Thursday, March 18, at the President Wilson Hotel. Ambassador Avi Pazner, World Chairman of Keren Hayesod; Ilan Elgar, Israeli Ambassador to Switzerland; and honorary guest Dan Meridor, Deputy Prime Minister of Israel and Minister of Intelligence and Atomic Energy, were among the dignitaries attending the event.

Aviva Panush, President of "Feminine Action" of Keren Hayesod Geneva, recounted that Keren Hayesod, which celebrated its 90th anniversary this year, was founded in 1920 to  provide the Zionist movement with the financial means to realize the age-old dream of returning to Zion.

Ambassador Avi Pazner bid farewell to those assembled, several months prior to the end of his term.  He stressed his very special bond with French-speaking Switzerland, where he lived for many years during his childhood.

One of the highlights of the event was an enthusiastic appeal for Keren Hayesod by IDF hero, Ziv Bitton, a paramedic who described how he saved the life of fellow soldier Aaron Karov  in January 2009, during Operation Cast Lead. The joyful music of Liron Lev's Israeli  band concluded the evening, which had a profound impact on all participants.

KH Geneva has long supported and financed projects in Israel. In recent years, Keren Hayesod has focused on educational and social programs that create opportunities for young people and support the elderly and underprivileged in Israel.  Keren Hayesod Geneva has adopted several projects, as follows:

  • The Etgarim project, supported by Young Leadership in Geneva, helps youth of Ethiopian origin and their families integrate into Israeli society. Since 2009, Young Leadership has also  helped to renovate a building in the city of Akko in the framework of the Ayalim project.  Ayalim enables  students to settle in distressed areas, where they serve as agents of change.
  • KH Geneva is also involved in renovating an old immigrant ship and transforming it into an educational interactive exhibit at the Interactive Museum of Illegal Aliya in Atlith, south of Haifa, situated in the old detention camp for illegal immigrants.
  • Finally, "Feminine Action" is supporting Youth Futures in Afula. Youth Futures helps disadvantage youngsters realize their potential and talents in a framework that puts them on the path of success.
