With Eliezer (Moodi) Sandberg, the world chairman of Keren Hayesod-UIA, at her side, Sara Netanyahu, the wife of the prime minister, addressed a group of lone soldiers today – soldiers from abroad who have no family in Israel and who have volunteered to serve in the Israel Defense Forces. “You are lone soldiers but you are not alone” Mrs. Netanyahu assured the soldiers, who represent a range of IDF units.

The prime minister’s wife was speaking in conjunction with a project that she initiated with the support of Keren Hayesod donors to provide for the Passover holiday needs of lone soldiers and of soldiers from families facing difficulties. The assistance is distributed in the form of holiday gift coupons redeemable at a number of retail outlets in advance of the Passover holiday. Sara Netanyahu and Eliezer Moodi Sandberg ceremonially presented the support of the Keren Hayesod donors in the form of a check for 565,000 shekels (US$156,000).
Keren Hayesod World Chairman Sandberg noted that thanks go out to the donors of Keren Hayesod and its supporters. “We have all mobilized to say thank you for the privilege of supporting IDF soldiers,” and he noted that this year, the level of support for the program has increased. For her part, Mrs. Netanyahu noted that Keren Hayesod has always stepped forward to support national priority projects whenever it is called upon.
“Mutual responsibility is a supreme value in Israel and giving is a great privilege for us,” she said to the soldiers, adding: “Thanks to you - -our soldiers - - we can enjoy security in our homeland.”
The gathering, the sixth event of its kind, was held in Jerusalem at a center sponsored by Warm Home for Every Soldier, a non-profit organization that provides services to lone soldiers and soldiers in need and is distributing the holiday gift coupons. Mrs. Netanyahu also thanked Shifra Shahar, the director of Warm Home for Every Soldier, for what her organization has been doing for the soldiers for so long.
