Saluting Pierre Haas' decades of activity, Alan Hoffman told his grandchildren, who came to Jerusalem especially for the ceremony, "Your grandfather is a very important man".
"What place more symbolic than this room, where David Ben-Gurion and the Zionist leadership decided on the creation of the State of Israel, could we find for our gathering today?" Hoffman asked rhetorically.
"Continuity and the importance of Keren Hayesod's work: this is what you instilled in your children, as evidenced by your son Xavier's involvement in Keren Hayesod activities in France and the aliyah of your son Jérôme and his family here", added Greg Masel.

Visibly moved, Pierre Haas said, "Thank you for this tribute, but I don't think that spending time and energy on a that one believes is worthy deserves any recognition".  He paid tribute to the memory of Akiva Arbel z "l, the Keren Hayesod representative in France for 40 years, who "infected  me with this bug that I always have".   He also paid tribute to the memory of Victor Nahmias z "l, who was then director of communications at KH: "He saved my life, by keeping me from jumping on a bomb during a mission to South  Lebanon over 35 years ago".
