In gratitude: Jack Hasen

On May 3, 2017, at a festive ceremony held in Jerusalem, the Yakir Keren Hayesod award was bestowed by Minister of Defense Avigdor Liberman and by KH leadership upon Jack Hasen, from Montreal, Canada.
During this moving evening, a short video clip produced in his honor was screened, with Beersheva mayor Ruvik Danilovich saying warm words of praise about him.

Born and raised in Montreal, Jack Hasen (b. 1957) is a businessman, community volunteer and philanthropist.

Hasen plays an active role in the educational, cultural and communal life of Montreal’s Jewish community, standing at the head of some of the city’s most important philanthropic organizations. His communal life began at Hebrew Academy, where he served as President for three years. During his tenure there, he successfully fundraised and built the new Hebrew Academy school facility. Jack is a former President of Federation CJA (2009-2011), and past Chair of Combined Jewish Appeal (2003).

He also served as a Chair of several key committees for Federation CJA, including Planning and Allocations, Personnel, and ProMontreal, as well as Co-Chair of the Community’s White Paper on Service Restructuring.

More recently, Hasen played a seminal role in the establishment of the Generations Fund, an innovative initiative designed to ensure a bright and sustainable future for Montreal’s Jewish community. Jack is the Chair of the Financial Resource Development Committee, where he is dedicating his fundraising talents to ensuring that it meets its ambitious goal of a $180 million endowment. He is Co-Chair of Federation CJA’s Centennial, and also serves as a member of the Board of the Jewish Community Foundation.

Jack is married to Pascale (Abessera) and they have six children and six grandchildren.

For his vision, his extraordinary leadership and his unwavering dedication, Jack Hasen is a worthy recipient of the Yakir Keren Hayesod Award.
