In Gratitude: Joy Cohen z"l
London, UK
Shloshim of a great Jewish leader

The KH-UIA family marks with great sadness the "shloshim" of the passing of Joy Cohen, former president of the KH-UIA International Women's Division.

Deeply committed to Israel and the Jewish people, Joy lived her life according to the dictum that we must help the less fortunate. “Who can we rely upon if not our own?" she asked rhetorically. Accordingly, she was an active supporter of virtually every Jewish organization as well as many general causes for over 50 years.

Joy’s involvement in the United Jewish Israel Appeal of Great Britain began in 1985. A natural leader, she served two terms as chairperson of Women's UJIA and was a board member of the National Women's UJIA Senior Committee for many years. She was instrumental in launching the Lion of Judah in Britain, and was a recipient of its Tifferet Lion of Judah Award.

In 1998, Joy’s outstanding dedication and generosity were recognized with the Yakir Keren Hayesod Award. From 2002 to 2005, she served as president of the KH-UIA International Women's Division, instituting many changes and innovations. In 2007, she received the IWD's Award of Excellence. Honorary president of the International Women's Division, Joy was a member of the Keren Hayesod Board of Trustees as well as of the Jewish Agency Board of Governors.

Joy was a model worthy of emulation and a source of inspiration for all those who were privileged to know her. She will be sorely missed. We extend sincerest condolences to her husband, Stanley, her children and the entire family.

May her memory be blessed.
