Higher Education Scholarships for New Immigrants

PROVIDING EQUAL OPPORTUNITY TO SUCCEED

Student Scholarship

WHY HIGHER EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIPS?

Thousands of young new immigrants come to Israel every year. Many, particularly those from countries of distress, lack the means to pursue academic studies. After their compulsory army service, they are forced to work, most often becoming locked into low-paying jobs due to their lack of education and training. This needless waste of potential is tragic both for them and for society.

WHAT ARE HIGHER EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIPS?

Tuition grants to institutions of higher education for up to four years provided by the Student Authority with the assistance of the Jewish Agency and the Ministry of Absorption.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

  • Grants are available for a year-long pre-academic preparatory program plus three years of undergraduate study
  • Alternatively, the grant covers three years of graduate study, plus a fourth year if required
  • Scholarships are available to accredited universities and colleges throughout Israel
  • During the third year of studies, students are required to do four weekly hours of volunteer community work
  •

HOW IS IT UNIQUE?

  • The program enables thousands of young new immigrants to develop their talents, pursue gainful professions, and become contributing members of Israeli society
  • It furthers new immigrant students' economic and social integration into Israel

WHOM DOES IT HELP?

6,000 new immigrants ages 18-30 every year
