WHY ETGARIM?
Recent years have witnessed an alarming increase of vulnerable populations of all ages in Israel, who have encountered many situations of failure. This has created a “learned helplessness,” giving them the feeling that they lack control over their lives.
WHAT IS ETGARIM?
- Etgarim is an interactive computerized learning program designed to empower users by enabling them to develop their individual skills and abilities
- It was developed by the Israeli software company Compedia, Ltd., a strategic partner of KH-UIA and a major donor to its activities
HOW DOES IT WORK?
- Participants gain basic computer skills through individualized interactive learning
- A specially trained tutor helps each participant and provides ongoing support
- Participants learn inventive thinking
- Compedia provides the software as well as the instructor training and technical support
WHOM DOES IT HELP?
Hundreds of vulnerable individuals including at-risk children, youngsters living in the Gaza envelope area and the north, chronically ill children in hospitals, soldiers suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Ethiopian immigrants, and elderly residents of sheltered housing facilities
WHAT MAKES ETGARIM UNIQUE?
By providing users with the tools to find creative solutions to their challenges, the Etgarim project helps them take control of their lives
