Aliyah Packages for New Immigrants

WHY ALIYAH PACKAGES?

Every year, thousands of new immigrants seek to start new lives in their ancestral homeland.  Airfare is generally beyond the means of newcomers from countries of distress, who often live on a subsistence level;  even for more affluent olim, the cost of moving a family can be prohibitive.  Furthermore, the difficulty of relocation –finding employment, locating a place to live, registering children in school – all in an unfamiliar language – can make the whole process overwhelming.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

  • Prospective immigrants register with the local Jewish Agency shaliach
  • They receive a free Hebrew ulpan and pre-aliyah seminars that prepare them for life in Israel;  the length and content depend on country of origin
  • They have a choice of two tracks:  living at  absorption centers or direct absorption
  • Upon arrival in at Ben Gurion Airport, the newcomers receive Ministry of Absorption immigrant cards
  • Those who have chosen to go to absorption centers are taken to the center assigned to them;  participants in the direct absorption program are brought to a hotel in Jerusalem, where, at a "red carpet" fair, representatives of local authorities and service providers present information about housing, jobs, schools, banking, health care, etc. and facilitate registration

HOW IS IT UNIQUE?

  • The Jewish Agency shaliach takes care of all the logistics so that the new immigrants only need to show up with their carryon luggage
  • Upon arrival in Israel, the bureaucratic hassles are eliminated, cushioning the shock of relocation and inestimably easing the adjustment process for the olim
