JEWISH IDENTITY EDUCATION FOR IDF SOLDIERS
KhUia_MainDescription
WHY NATIV?
Since the collapse of the Iron Curtain in the early 1990s, over one million new immigrants from the former Soviet Union arrived in Israel.
Many of them are not Jewish according to Jewish law - a fact that makes it difficult for them to fully integrate into Israeli society. The Nativ program makes it possible for them to strengthen their Jewish identity by learning more about Judaism and Israel.
WHAT IS NATIV?
Nativ is a comprehensive Jewish education program designed to strengthen new immigrant soldiers' connection to the State of Israel and to the Jewish heritage.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The program focuses on the study of the Bible, the history of the Jewish people, Zionism and the State of Israel, Jewish philosophy, and Jewish practice
The program combines classroom study, experiential activities, tours, Shabbat seminars, and individual projects
Soldiers who wish to convert to Judaism may take two additional two-week seminars on Jewish studies and practice
They are then referred to the military rabbinate to complete their conversion
WHAT MAKES
NATIV
UNIQUE?
The approach is pluralistic, introducing the participants to the various streams in contemporary Jewish life
The program is conducted within the framework of the IDF
The courses are intense, enabling the soldiers to complete their conversion in a short time
They are conveniently located, at army bases and other locations
WHOM DOES IT HELP?
1000 new immigrant soldiers, primarily from the former Soviet Union, who are not halachically Jewish, every year
HOW YOU CAN HELP
The Nativ program costs $1,350 per soldier.
Every dollar you contribute will ease the conversion process for a new immigrant soldier and help him or her integrate into Israeli society!
