Over one-fifth of Israel’s elderly live in poverty. Among them are approximately 234,000 Holocaust survivors and more than 130,000 olim from the former Soviet Union. These new immigrants arrive in Israel without any means of livelihood and often without the vital support of family and friends. Through AMIGOUR sheltered housing, KH-UIA provides Israel's elderly with social and cultural enrichment and independent living in a safe supportive environment. KH-UIA also finances apartment renovation, allowing Israel's elderly to live lives of independence and dignity in safe, appropriate housing.
