Facing a new kind of terrorism – fire

Residents of Israeli border communities near the Gaza Strip have faced rocket attacks off and on for years from the Gaza Strip, but over the past several weeks, even the most hardened of residents there have been witness to hostilities from Gaza of an entirely new kind. Gazans have been sailing kites and balloons over the border equipped with firebombs and explosives that not only present an immediate threat to residents who come near them but have also started dozens of fires.

The blazes have blackened wheat fields, nature reserves and forests. Many have burned out of control, posing a kind of threat unlike anything that residents of the border communities, or perhaps anywhere else, have seen.
When a fire breaks out, time is of the essence, and many firetrucks are too large to reach the blazes in time to contain them when they are first spotted. With the help of its donors around the world, Keren Hayesod-UIA is committed to provide the necessary equipment to address this latest challenge facing the residents.
Keren Hayesod team drove along the border with Gaza this week and learned how Keren Hayesod’s donors can help.
