This year's prize was jointly awarded to Dr. Lars-Peter Lindfors and his team and Prof. Doron Aurbach. Dr. Lindfors and his team, from Neste Corporation (Finland), have taken a leading role in the development of clean biodiesel from organic waste products.

Prof. Aurbach, from Bar-Ilan and the first Israeli to be awarded, has made key contributions to the emergence of the present ion insertion battery materials as an alternative to liquid fuels to power electric vehicles.

Mr. Greg Masel, Director General of Keren Hayesod-UIA, said in his address: "tonight is about making Israel and the world a better place, which I might add has been the work of KH for almost 100 years through our programs and social initiatives enabling the continued immigration to Israel; enabling the elderly to live in dignity; providing opportunities to youth at risk in the periphery by unlocking their potential. Israel is the start up nation, exporting it's knowledge across the globe and Keren Hayesod-UIA is the start-up philanthropic organization spreading it's knowledge across the globe.

"How? It's all about the people, our leaders and donors, that enable this to happen. There is no better example of this than Eric and Sheila Samson - true leaders, amazing philanthropists with a passion for Israel, her survival and her growth. Sheila and Eric's generosity is boundless, all this with a sense of humility and modesty.
"We congratulate this year's award winners and are proud to stand together with you all on this most extraordinary initiative."
