2023 Yakir Keren Hayesod Award recipients

Vancouver, Canada

Like Keren Hayesod, Gordon and Leslie Diamond are guided by the Jewish values we all hold dear, including the principle of mutual responsibility (ערבים זה לזה) and Tzedakah (צדקה).

Central philanthropic pillars in Vancouver’s Jewish community and two of the leading philanthropists in Canada, Gordon and Leslie are deeply committed to the future and prosperity of Jews worldwide, figuring as prominent leaders in Canadian Jewry and global Jewish organizations. Gordon is a renowned businessman and philanthropist who has grown two of Western Canada’s largest family-owned businesses into leaders in their respective industries.

Leslie Diamond’s life-long commitment to philanthropy has inspired thousands of people over her long career. She is a founding member of the United Way’s Women in Philanthropy, a member of BC Women’s Hospital Council of Governors, and a champion of arts and culture.

Both Gordon and Leslie are members of the Order of British Columbia, the highest form of recognition from the Provincial Government recognizing those who have served with the greatest distinction and excelled in benefiting the people of British Columbia and beyond. Gordon is an Officer of the Order of Canada, a title reserved for those who have offered their outstanding talent in service to Canadians.

Established and funded by the family, The Diamond Foundation is one of their proudest collective accomplishments, embodying one of their fundamental beliefs: the act of giving. The Foundation deeply values education and community building, and recently announced a $25 million donation toward redeveloping Vancouver’s Jewish Community Centre into a state-of-the-art hub of culture and education.
