About
the prize

The Israel Goldstein Prize is named in memory of Dr. Israel Goldstein, who served as World Chairman of Keren Hayesod-United Israel Appeal from 1961 to 1971. A prominent rabbi and Zionist leader in the United States, he made his home in Jerusalem after coming on aliyah.

Dr. Goldstein led Keren Hayesod during a period of expansion and growth, particularly after the Six-Day War in 1967. An active and dynamic individual, he was an ardent believer in volunteer leadership and promoted involvement in Keren Hayesod-UIA campaigns in Israel and the Diaspora. He died in 1986 at the age of 87.

The prize bearing his name, the highest honour bestowed by Keren Hayesod, is awarded annually to one or more leaders associated with Keren Hayesod campaigns worldwide. It was first presented in 1980, Keren Hayesod’s 60th anniversary year.
