Young Communities

Supporting the next generation of social pioneers

young communities

Why Young Communities?

Dynamic young Israelis are creating a new pioneering spirit by building Young Communities in Israel’s periphery, specifically the Negev and Galilee regions. They are harnessing their power as agents of social change to strengthen Israel’s underdeveloped areas. After finishing their army service, young Israelis typically choose the centre of the country to pursue a college education and launch their professional careers. Yet, growing social activism is motivating the next generation to work towards closing social gaps and building a more just society. Young Communities is made up of the Choosing Tomorrow program.

Choosing Tomorrow

What is Choosing Tomorrow?

Choosing Tomorrow encourages motivated, responsible students to commit to remaining in the Galilee, Negev, or Jerusalem for at least two years after graduation. Choosing Tomorrow helps young activists find employment and supports local community initiatives. The program has 250 students participating in 23 groups throughout the periphery. Participants create local communities as residents of the regions. Special focus is also given to priority needs, such as working with medical students in order to increase the quality of medical professionals in these regions and community activities for Holocaust survivors.
