Earlier this month, we had the pleasure of welcoming the sixth delegation of student visitors from Hong Kong. The delegation is part of a special project initiated by a Keren Hayesod donor with the idea to bring these students for a unique visit to Israel. Students see first-hand Israel’s success in innovation and technology and learn about Israel and world Jewry’s contributions to the rest of the world.

Keren Hayesod is honoured to have helped bring the donor’s dream from concept into reality.

The program begins with our Hong Kong partners undertaking the recruitment process. This year, for the fourth time, we worked with Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in this capacity. The trip is in high demand, and after a rigorous selection process, 35 outstanding students are approved to join the trip. Participants are typically 22-25 years old and students of the university’s science, management and advanced interdisciplinary programs.

The students enjoy a diverse and informative trip in Israel. They meet with high-tech and start-up companies to gain firsthand knowledge of Israel’s innovation economy. They also visit key sites throughout the country to learn more about Israel’s Jewish heritage and the history of the state. They also gain an appreciation for the State’s vibrant culture. As an example, a day of the trip may start by exploring the history Jaffa port before heading to a start-up developing new business services for freelancers and finish with a visit to the Peres Center for Peace and Innovation.

The trip also ensures that students learn about the complexities of living in Israel. Students learn about the religious and cultural diversities in the country, especially during their tour exploring Jerusalem’s Old City.

While we have said goodbye to our first 2020 delegation, more trips are already being prepared for the coming months.

We will soon welcome our fifth delegation, and it is an incredible to see the ever-growing number of students that have and will participate on these special trips.
