Dorothy and Leonard Sank

News

Dorothy and Leonard Sank from South Africa recently visited Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon, the hospital closest to the Gaza strip, which regularly treats casualties of the ongoing terrorist attacks on Israeli civilians. They witnessed the profound impact of the major donation to Barzilai by Dorothy’s parents, Sheila and Eric Samson, through Keren Hayesod.
“The donation enabled the construction of a large, protected, state-of-the-art Emergency Room with new trauma stations”

“The hospital’s most critical buildings and life-saving services were vulnerable to rockets”, said Prof. Hezi Levi, CEO of Barzilai, “negatively affecting both routine and emergency care.  The state-of-the-art emergency room, operating room, intensive care departments and underground hospital, all fully protected, that the Samsons’ contribution through Keren Hayesod made possible, moved the hospital forward generations! Advanced technology and protection are key to the hospital’s capabilities – something we witnessed during this last round of fighting, in Operation Black Belt”.

“The donation enabled the construction of a large, protected, state-of-the-art Emergency Room with new trauma stations”, reiterated Dr. Jonathan Rick, Director of the Emergency Room. “The hospital has to treat, under rocket fire, the sick and injured, who are also suffering from anxiety. This new additions greatly improved the treatment we provide and our admission capabilities, and greatly enhanced the safety of both patients and staff.

Also included as part of the project are a protected NICU unit as well as a heart Institute and a Dialysis Institute, which are still in the planning stages.
