On November 29, 1947, the UN General Assembly adopted Resolution 181 calling for the partition of British-ruled Mandatory Palestine into two states – a Jewish state and an Arab state.
The resolution was accepted by the Jews in Palestine, but rejected by its Arabs residents and all the Arab states.
This act is still considered one of the most important milestones in the creation of the State of Israel.
